IMT Develops File Based Workflow for New Google Web Animated Series Cavalcade for “Family Guy’s” Seth McFarlane

September 12, 2008

LOS ANGELES—Integrated Media Technologies, Inc (IMT) recently designed and built a unique digital production pipeline for Main Street Pictures and Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane for use in the production of a new series of animated video shorts that will be distributed on YouTube leveraging Google’s AdSense network.

The file based workflow allows Main Street’s Los Angeles-based production and editorial team to work collaboratively with an international animation house and externally-based freelance artists. It will also allow the studio to deliver finished shorts to Google in the format required for distribution via the Web. The series of shorts, which will be supported by advertising, will appear in banners served by Google on its sites as well as independent sites.

“IMT is proud to assist Main Street Pictures with a project that is breaking new ground for entertainment content on the Internet,” said IMT CEO Bruce Lyon. “Producing media for Internet distribution presents a number of technical challenges and many companies will face those challenges as the Web becomes an increasingly prominent part of the content distribution matrix. We are committed to helping our clients meet those challenges in the most efficient and economical way possible.”

The file based workflow that was developed by IMT facilitates the production of 2D animation and allows authorized parties to access and contribute content securely. Key components of the file based workflow includes digital story-boarding, animation, editing, content storage, and transcoding for Internet distribution.

“The editorial and shared storage system needed to be robust enough for the current web production but easily scale for television and film production,” said IMT Executive Vice President of Sales Mike Braico, who oversaw the project. “We anticipate Seth McFarlane’s new characters to rapidly gain popularity on the Internet using Google as the primary distribution vehicle.”

IMT technology team initially analyzed Main Street’s workflow needs and then tailored a solution that met its budgetary and project deadline requirements. “IMT was very proactive in communicating its process, while daily updates kept our management aware of the progress in meeting deadlines,” recalled Main Street Pictures Producer and Co-Founder Andrew Egiziano.

IMT’s team had previously worked with Main Street principals during the production of the animated feature Barnyard a Nickelodeon Film, which successfully spun off to a weekly animated series on Nickelodeon TV. “They were tasked with the design and installation of a powerful offsite rendering and storage solution that could render a movie with a highly complex
asset system that included more than 180 characters, many with dynamic hair and fur, in less than eight months,” Egiziano said.
